Cyber Essentials checklists 2026
Every requirement as a row you can tick, with the evidence to gather and the question that asks for it.
A Cyber Essentials checklist lists every requirement in the NCSC Requirements for IT Infrastructure v3.3 (April 2026) across the five controls, maps each one to the Danzell question that asks about it, and names the evidence to hold. Three versions exist here: the self-assessment checklist, the Cyber Essentials Plus audit checklist and the scope checklist.

Which checklist do you need?
Use the scope checklist first, the Cyber Essentials checklist to prepare the self-assessment, and the Cyber Essentials Plus checklist after the self-assessment passes.
- Step 117 rowsCyber Essentials scope checklistWhat is in and out of scope for Cyber Essentials under Requirements v3.3: whole organisation or sub-set, end user devices, cloud services, BYOD, home working, wireless, third-party accounts and devices.
- Step 239 rowsCyber Essentials checklist 2026Every Cyber Essentials requirement under v3.3, control by control, with the evidence to gather and the Danzell question that asks for it. Shown as a table on the page, ready to print.
- Step 316 rowsCyber Essentials Plus checklistWhat the Cyber Essentials Plus assessor tests under Test Specification v3.2: the pre-audit checks and the five test cases, with the evidence and the self-assessment question behind each.
How are the checklists built?
Every row comes from the official scheme documents, not from opinion: a requirement in the NCSC Requirements v3.3 or a test step in the Cyber Essentials Plus Test Specification v3.2.
The question column links to the Danzell question that asks for the same control, so you can read the guidance and the compliant wording before you answer. The evidence column names a concrete artefact, an export, a report or a screenshot, because assessors mark the notes fields on what you can show, not on what you intend.
Start with the scope checklist if you have not yet decided between a whole-organisation and a sub-set scope. Use the Cyber Essentials checklist to prepare the self-assessment, and the Plus checklist in the three months between your Cyber Essentials certification and the audit.

Frequently asked questions
Every requirement in the NCSC Requirements for IT Infrastructure v3.3 across the five controls (firewalls, secure configuration, security update management, user access control and malware protection), the Danzell question that asks about each one, and the evidence you will need to answer it. The scope decisions come first, because every later row depends on them.
Start with the scope checklist if you have not yet decided between whole-organisation and sub-set scope. Then use the Cyber Essentials checklist to prepare the self-assessment. Use the Cyber Essentials Plus checklist only after the self-assessment passes, to prepare the sample for the audit.
Four Danzell questions fail automatically on a No answer: A6.4 and A6.5 on installing critical and high-risk updates within 14 days, and A7.16 and A7.17 on MFA for cloud administrators and users. A7.15 fails automatically if a listed cloud service does offer MFA. A6.3 and A6.6 on unsupported software are not automatic fails, but a non-compliant answer means the requirement is not met. Tick those rows first.
A completed checklist shows the controls are in place, but the assessor marks your answers to the question set, not the checklist. Use the evidence column to write specific notes fields: the product, the setting and the devices it applies to.
Would you pass the 2026 question set?
Answer 24 yes or no questions, built by the assessors who mark Cyber Essentials, and get a readiness score in about five minutes, with any auto-fail questions you miss flagged first in your results.
